Till now it was pretty difficult to find out the original sources Joseph Lai & Tomas Tang used for their ninja experiments ( well, not only ninja but also modern day actioners, thrillers, superheroes flicks...etc). If the fan was a die hard asian moviesgoer was quite easy to guess if the original movie used by Lai or Tang was Thai, Korean, Taiwanese, Filipino..etc but the searchas was over in that step.
Spanish people have been lucky in the way that Spanish distributors who dealed with IFD or Filmark bought many of the original movies without the pasted shots starred by Mike Abbott, Pierre Kirby, Sean Odell and many others. That advantage gave me a thin link to continue my search of other titles throught the years. Thanks to internet, friends around the world & even some people who were involved on those productions I have been able to dig more & more information about those asian movies used by IFD.
There are a lot of fake stories in internet about if Lai,Tang & company used unfinished movies for their projects...THAT'S FAKE, lets repeat again: THAT'S FAKE. IFD & Filmark used to distribute Asian films all around the world as Intercontinental Films & Ocean Shores did ( well, Golden Harvest & Shaw Bros also did but they did't do exclusively like IFD).
Joseph Lai used to go to films market, bought a bunch of movies, redubbed them into English, changed the original title for an international English one & finally throw his products back to the movie markets. When the demand of ninja movies was huge, Lai & Tang just used many of their previously released films, re-edited them, redubbed them & pasted some new shots directed by people like Godfrey Ho, Philip Ko among other many more.
Some examples that enlight my exposition are:
-Ninja Thunderbolt, originally a taiwanese production from the early 80's entitled THE NINJA & THE THIEF that Lai bought & added some fotage of Richard Harrison. The original movie without the added shots was released in Hong Kong by Ocean Shores.
-Inferno Thunderbolt: Another taiwanese movie from the early 80`s who has Richard Harrison playing a hard boiled cop in some added shots by IFD. Its original title was THE ANGER & it was also released in Hong Kong without Harrison shots by Ocean Shores.
-Platoon the Warriors: It is a very interesting movie directed by Philip Ko who used as main body a filipino movie titled DIEGONG BAYONG. KO directed Mike Abbott & Mark Watson in the new added scenes & mixed them with the original filipino source.
-Advent Commando 3: Savage Temptation, this movie has been eliminated from the IFD official catalog. The reason may be a copyright reason or whatever. I state it because the movie used for this modern day actioner starring Pierre Kirby was a coproduction between Hong Kong & Taiwan titled GIRL WITH A GUN, edited again in Hong Kong by Ocean Shores.
-Full Metal Ninja was just a cut, re-edited version of a korean movie titled MU IN (1984) that was a mere imitation of the Lone Wolf & Cub movie series but without babycarts & baby.
For more info you can check the pics added in the post named CORTA, PEGA y EDITA written in Spanish.

Hello, I'm creating a little site dedicated to Pierre Kirby. So I did a little research on his movies and I think it's a "Crackdown Mission" used edited version of "Girl with a Gun" (also known as "Fury in Red").
ResponderEliminarSome links proving the same actors and descriptions of these movies:
http://www.bestmoviepostersonline.com/auction_details.php?auction_id=100900&option=item_watch
http://www.alex-in-wonderland.com/MovieReviews/Asian-G/GirlWithAGun.html
http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=4717
Also was edited "Zombie Rivals" (known as "Gravedigger") movie used for "Zombie vs. Ninja"?
ResponderEliminarI'm becoming so confused with those movies.
Did my previous comment disappear? Maybe it's because of links, but with them I just wanted to prove that "Girl with a Gun" (aka "Fury in Red") was used for "Crackdown Mission"
Hello Mrsbrisby. Thanks a lot for your comment!
ResponderEliminarI don't know what happens with the comments. When I reply someone it takes some time to appear in the comments sidebar. You are not the first one who says your comments dissapear...I really don't know what is going on with this matter. I will try to solve it.
Could add those links you mention about girl with a gun? I have both Girl with a gun VCD from HK & the German DVD of Crackdown Mission...do you know if there is an english version of Crackdown Mission?
Oh, I mean I have both Girl with a Gun HK VCD from Ocean Shores & Savage Temptation & I confirm Girl with a gun was used for this one...not for Crackdown Mission. I have the german ( and heavily cut) DVD but I would like to find an english dubbed version of it.
ResponderEliminarAnd thank you for answering. I really want to know more about Kirby, I decided to create a little site dedicated to him.
ResponderEliminarAfter reading an interview with Paul Stanners, I found the "Fury in Red" poster:
http://www.bestmoviepostersonline.com/auction_details.php?auction_id=100900&option=item_watch
The cast is similar to Crackdown Mission and I definetly remember that girl in red dress shooting bad guys on 53 minute of Pierre's movie.
Then I googled "Girl with a Gun" and found this:
http://www.alex-in-wonderland.com/MovieReviews/Asian-G/GirlWithAGun.html
http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/reviews.mhtml?id=9686&display_set=eng
This is a complete story of Crackdown Mission's Movie A.
Maybe there're two movies named "Girl with a Gun".
Also don't mistake this "Fury in Red" (of 1982/1984) with "Fury in Red" (of 1991). Different movies.

I have a german dubbed movie too, perhaps english dub was never released maybe because of the same problem like they had with "Savage Temptation" only earlier.
I hope this comment won't dissapear and will be useful in some way.

mrsbrisby, have you read the interview that Mr Edowan Bersma kindly granted us? There you can see some behind the scenes pictures with Pierre Kirby & also some small information about Mt Kirby's fate. If you haven't read it yet, take your time & do it...I am sure you will like it.
ResponderEliminarI am now in Spain & my copies of Savege Temptation, Crackdown Mission & my VCD of Girl With a gun are in the Philippines & I can't upload several screenshots of them by myself but I am pretty sure about Girl with a gun was the source movie for Savage Temptation & crackdown mission had another taiwanese movie.
Thanks a lot for the information & links you have added.
I really don't know why the comments dissapear... I can't unserstand it. My comments take a time to appear in the right side bar "recent comments" section but they are always in the post comments. Some other people has also complaint about this but I really don't know how to solve it.
Yes, I read that interesting interview. By the way, can I use the stills with Kirby from it for my site's gallery? Of course I'll mention the source.
ResponderEliminarAlso here's a movie bought by Joseph Lai for Godfrey Ho's "Thunder of Gigantic Serpent":
http://wtf-film.com/site/2010/09/04/king-of-snake/
And perhaps I know what the comments-problem is - if comment has too many links in it (maybe even two or three), blogspot thinks that this comment is spam and deletes it. Maybe.

ResponderEliminarHere's a site with screens from Crackdown Mission:
schnittberichte (dot) com/schnittbericht.php?ID=4717
to compare the movie with "Girl with a Gun" from previous sites
Does your VCD have this cover?:

Anyway, if you check those movies someday, could you mail me about them here: maxwell@atomlink.ru or write a post in your blog, please?

Mrsbrisby, feel free to use any pic and/or information you may need from this blog. As you say don't forget to add the source. The people who worked for IFD / Filmark who kindly passed me information, pics & the permissions to use them here deserve the credit & the maximun respect. I have to "give face" to them for their priceless help.
ResponderEliminarNOW...I am speechless & ashamed, those screenshots from crackdown mission are from A girl with a gun indeed. I am afraid I have been wrong with my statement about Girl with a gun was used for Savage Temptation. I am confused now. I got Girl with a Gun VCD ( my VCd has also that cover from OCean shores) in Hong Kong in 2000 & then I got Crackdown mission & Savage temptation german dvd in 2008.
I have to check Savage temptation again to solve this unforgivable mistake!!!
You are right again...when you add links to the comments, the system take them as spam & they don't dissapear, they are hidden in an option. I didn't know about it. So from now on I must check it all the time. Since I haven't got so many comments in the blog, I have never checked the comments options!!!...another mistake!!!
I am so sorry about it!
